Research on perception could give us keys for a design focussed on humans needs. Finding these keys can be achieved by interdisciplinary work, adding different expertises, methods and points of view.

Against this background architects, urban planners, designers and other professions exchanged methods, did research and developed concepts during a program that took place at the Detmolder Schule für Architektur und Innenarchitektur. The focus and background for research, experiments and concepts was in industrial ruins, as handling this heritage is an emerging theme in society, in environmental and urban planning as well as in architecture and design.

This publication shows the process and the results of the program. It demonstrates how different the used methods are and so the outcomes are. Really getting into space, a concious and focussed search on it’s specific impact leads to much more than to another shopping mall: To make the world better it needs ideas and visions of people who observe carefully and who think lateral.
